Opting out - What you need to know
- Your employer cannot ask or force you to opt out!
- If you are asked or forced to opt out you can tell The Pensions Regulator - see www.tpr.gov.uk/concern
- If you change your mind you may be able to opt back in - write to your employer if you want to do this.
- If you stay opted out your employer will normally put you back into pension saving in around 3 years. If you'd like more details, please speak to your employer.
- If you have another job your other employer might also put you into pension saving, now or in the future.
- If you have or are being enrolled by any other employer and you wish to opt out, you will need to do this separately for each employer.
Opting out online will stop contributions from all your employers paying into The People's Pension. If you have more than one employer paying into The People's Pension for you, and you only wish to stop contributions from one of them, you'll need to contact us to request a paper form.

Your NI (National Insurance) number is a 9 digit reference number which never changes – it’s made up of 2 letters, 6 numbers and a final letter, which is always A,B C, or D.
So it’ll be in this format AB 12 34 56 A.
You’ll find it on your payslip/P60, or by contacting your local tax office.

This is a 7 or 8-digit number.
When your employer signed you up to The People’s Pension, we’d have sent you joiner information with your customer number, either by post or by email. And any letters or emails we’ve sent you since you joined will have this number on, too.
So, to find your customer number you could try to find a letter from us, or try searching your inbox or junk folder for any emails from firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
